West Midlands logistics firm fuels expansion with new funding package
A Black Country logistics firm has taken on nearly 50 new employees after a major contract win, the firm says.
Bosses at Oldbury logistics firm PDS Direct, which specialises in fragile and high-value goods, say the company is set to expand its operations, workforce, and fleet to meet increasing demand following the award of a new five-year deal.
After recently winning the client contract, the business underwent a major expansion, including the recruitment of 45 new employees, growing the team by 40%, along with the acquisition of 30 additional vehicles.
The team also underwent substantial investment in infrastructure, including the purchase of a CNG-powered tractor unit to support sustainable operations.
The move was supported by funding package from Lloyds to help the firm to meet its current and long-term goals. The package included funding to expand its fleet by 25%, along with financial support to scale operations and onboard new employees.
This growth initiative has brought PDS Direct’s workforce to 165 employees, and its fleet to more than 150 vehicles. The company now supports 660 customers and anticipates a 36% increase in annual turnover by 2025. The company remains focused on delivering outstanding service to its customers, expanding its footprint in key markets, and exploring new opportunities for sustainable innovation.
Sean Kiely, Managing Director at PDS Direct, said: “Securing a major client contract was a pivotal moment for PDS Direct. It not only validated the expertise we bring to logistics but also set the stage for our continued growth. To meet the demands of this contract, we had to act decisively, expanding our team, fleet, and infrastructure rapidly.
“Our relationship with Lloyds has been instrumental in supporting our growth over the years. They understand our business inside and out, and their ability to provide bespoke solutions means we’ve always felt supported at every stage of our journey.”
“PDS Direct’s dedication to delivering specialised logistics solutions makes them a standout in the industry," said Andy Matthews, Relationship Director at Lloyds.
"We’re proud to support their expansion with a funding package tailored to their needs. It’s been rewarding to work closely with Sean and his team, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth.”
