Midlands firm backs historic Dudley church renovation with donation for repairs

St Francis Church in Dudley has served its community for over 100 years, but is now battling with structural issues discovered during parts of its refurbishment to become a community hub.

The historic church, which is in the heart of Priory Estate, is also home to a stained glass window commemorating footballing legend Duncan Edwards who grew up locally.

Now, the Richardson Brothers Foundation has stepped in to help support its fundraising efforts with a donation towards its repairs and decoration.

Organisers at the foundation say it recognises the important role St Francis Church plays within the wider community and the service it provides to many different individuals and organisations.

Jan Jennings, on behalf of the Richardson Brothers Foundation, said: “St Francis Church has over a century of service and has played a huge part in the life of many generations. 

"However the building needs to be fit for purpose for its next 100 years and the foundation is really pleased to be able to help it with a donation to assist it on its way.”

The Richardson family business was founded more than 70 years ago and, following years of charitable giving, the Richardson Brothers Foundation was established in 2006 supporting a variety of charities and individuals.

Rev James Treasure, Team Rector, added: “We’re very grateful to the Richardson Brothers Foundation for supporting us with our fundraising. 

"We’re hopeful that in just over a year the building work will be complete and the church will be transformed into a multi-functional space at the heart of the community.”
