Two in as Staffordshire financial planning firm celebrates best year performance
Brewood-based financial planning firm Bank House’s decision to invest in new talent is paying off as it passes £205million assets under management – the best performance in its 31-year history.
The company, which acquired Fox Whittle Financial Management in February, has seen a surge in new clients following the deal, with individuals keen to tap into a business that is looking to remain independent rather than becoming part of a consolidator or larger group.
Now, two of its newest recruits recently achieved Competent Adviser Status (CAS) to bring them to the required level for advising clients.
Financial advisers Hannah Garratt and Paul Trahearn both joined Bank House from backgrounds outside of the financial advice sector, the former an ACA-qualified accountant and the latter a teacher for more than 15 years.
“Our recruitment strategy aligns with our long-term succession plan. Starting in 2017, we have sought to secure the longevity of the business by hiring younger talent, rather than selling to a consolidator or larger business,” said Sam Brueton, director and financial adviser at Bank House.
“Bringing advisers on board from diverse backgrounds widens the perspective of the team, offering different mindsets and fresh viewpoints when serving clients.”
“Hannah and Paul are both under 40 and in the middle of their careers, and by the middle of next year, no Bank House adviser will be over the age of 42. This ensures that clients will have an adviser to serve them for the long-term.”
Hannah joined Bank House from PwC, with a strong accountancy background giving her an in-depth knowledge of tax planning, as well as insight into the specific challenges that business owners can face.
Her appointment also helps to address the gender divide in financial planning, adding a now highly qualified female adviser to the team.
“Moving into this role has been hugely rewarding for me,” said Hannah.
“My experience as an accountant means I can assist small business owners, in particular working with them on complex issues such as Corporation Tax.
“It’s also fantastic to represent women in financial services. It can be intimidating for female clients to seek the guidance they need with their wealth. So, addressing this gap is hugely important, and I’m pleased I can contribute to helping close it.”
Paul Trahearn’s strong educational background allows him to explain concepts and advise clients about all aspects of their wealth, whilst he’s also passionate about improving financial literacy in schools.
“Teachers can make great financial advisers because they know how to work and communicate with a wide range of people, identifying needs and simplifying complex concepts,” explained Paul.
“I’m pleased to be able to bring that experience into my role, helping individuals understand and organise their wealth in the most effective way possible.”
