Staffordshire County Council says its Green Solutions initiative, run by the local authority in association with the Business Energy Advice Service, is expected to result in a £1.6 million investment in low-carbon technologies and save 296 tonnes of carbon annually for local businesses in Staffordshire and Stoke-On-Trent.

More than 210 organisations have had energy efficiency assessments, with grants to fund green improvements, while 120 businesses have also received Carbon Literacy Training to help them make informed decisions about their impact on climate change.

“This million-pound milestone is a testament to our commitment to supporting local businesses in their journey towards sustainability," said Simon Tagg, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure, and Climate Change.

“The Green Solutions initiative is not only helping to reduce carbon emissions but also driving economic growth in our region.”

One of the businesses helped by the scheme, Newcastle-Under-Lyme Golf Club, received funding through the initiative to install energy-saving LED lightbulbs and replace an older diesel mower with an electric one.

"We are incredibly grateful for this funding, as it represents a significant step towards making Newcastle Golf Club greener and more sustainable. This initiative benefits not only our members but also the wider community," said Richard Beech, Club Manager.

"These small adjustments will have a substantial impact—not just on the golf club and its users, but also on the environment. We estimate that these changes will reduce our carbon emissions by 39,379 kWh and save us £5,513 annually."

Staffordshire County Council says the Green Solutions scheme is still open for new enquiries and is committed to working with more businesses to enhance their environmental performance.
