The Chief Executive of a West Midlands engineering firm has spoken of his pride after the firm was shortlisted twice at the West Midlands Business of the Year Awards.
Birmingham-based Adi Group was shortlisted in both the Community Impact and Employer of the Year shortlists at the awards, which are organised by TheBusinessDesk and recognise the best businesses from across the North West, the West Midlands, Yorkshire and the South West.
The Employer of the Year award recognises organisations that excel for their workforce through investment in skills and training, workplace wellbeing initiatives, support for groups and individuals and more.
Meanwhile, the community impact award nomination saw the company recognised for its outstanding community work, which has seen the firm raise over £100,000 for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity as well as providing hands-on support.
Winners in each category will be announced at the awards evening set to be held in February at the Macdonald Burlington in Birmingham.
"We are thrilled to see that our efforts to invest in the wellbeing and development of our employees, as well as to give back to our local community, have been recognised with such a prestigious award," said CEO Alan Lusty.
"Both categories celebrate areas that are and have always been of particular importance to our business, and we are proud to have been shortlisted.”
The firm says its commitment to its workforce starts with providing vocational opportunities through its unique pre-apprenticeship programme, which offers opportunities for ages as low as 14 to learn hands on mechanical and electrical skills, as well as its award-winning apprenticeships.
In 2023, the company achieved a number four ranking in Best Companies’ 2023 list of construction and engineering companies across the UK, as well as earning a spot at in the UK’s 100 Best Large Companies to Work For after being recognised for their workplace engagement practices.
The firm has also pledged to achieve 5% of its workforce in apprenticeship positions, a goal it says it has repeatedly exceeded in the past few years, having reached the 10% milestone in 2023.
Anna Cooper, editor for the West Midlands at TheBusinessDesk said: “A huge congratulations to all of our shortlisted companies and thank you to all who entered this year.
“We were overwhelmed with exceptional talent this year which gave our judges a very hard decision. I look forward to meeting the cream of the West Midlands business community at what will be a brilliant evening!”
