Working from home...or the pub?
Pubs and cafes across the region are inviting people who work from home to come in and hire a desk – in a bid to give isolated employees a boost.
The scheme, which is fast growing popular across the Black Country, Staffordshire and the wider nation, sees pubs, bars, and cafes invite workers in to take a table for a set period of time where they can work for a small fee, often including hot drinks and some food.
It’s been set up to help those who may be working from home alone, and miss the social aspect of working with others.
Hayley Hall, landlady at Lych Gate Tavern in Wolverhampton, said she’s found it to be a popular idea.
She said: “We have a function room that’s not being used at all, as there’s no events. So we’ve invited people to come and work in the pub.
“For me it’s mainly about helping with the mental health of people continuing to work from home, and the isolation they face.
“They do need to book, and it’s £10 for three hours. They get free wi-fi, a power socket, unlimited tea and coffee, a cob and a packet of crisps too and access to a wireless printer.
“It’s just so they can have a change of scenery. Gets them out and in somewhere safe and secure.
“It’s still early days but the idea has really taken off.”
