The job cuts will be made as part of a re-structure at its Steelpark business.

Emma Reynolds, MP for Wolverhampton North East, said she had contacted Tata bosses and unions about the move.

She said: “It is disappointing to hear about the news of 65 job losses at the Tata Steel Steelpark site in Wednesfield.

"I am urging the company to ensure that all redundancies are voluntary and have asked them for reassurances that there will be no compulsory redundancies.

“I have also asked the management to provide training for those who choose to leave to ensure they can get alternative employment.

"I have asked what contact Tata Steel has had with other local manufacturing companies, such as JLR - also owned by Tata - and Collins aerospace, about what vacancies these companies might have in the coming months.

“I welcome Tata Steel’s long-term commitment to the Steelpark in Wednesfield, despite these redundancies.

"They have invested £10 million in the site in recent years and a new state-of-the-art machine to process steel is currently being introduced."

Bosses said the move was crucial for the "long-term sustainability" of the site, which employs 750 people.
