Birmingham Airport has just enjoyed its busiest-ever October

The airport said it handled its highest ever recorded passenger figures for the month of October.

The airport welcomed 1,141,864 passengers through its doors – a 6.1per cent increase on last year.

The top three most visited destinations in October were Dublin, Amsterdam and Dubai.

At the same time, the destinations that saw the highest rate of growth in October, compared to the same month last year, included a near doubling in passengers flying to and from Venice and Krakow, while numbers to Naples rocketed by 83 per cent and Prague saw a 52.5 per cent surge.

Simon Richards, acting managing director at Birmingham Airport said: “Recording our best October in the airport’s 79-year history signifies an exciting period for us.

"We have recently released our draft Master Plan which explains how the airport plans to grow passenger numbers and deliver improved facilities for our airlines and passengers over the next 15 years, and these figures show that we are moving in the right direction.

“We have already made significant investments across the terminal and the surrounding areas of the airport including an improved security search area, a new on-site hotel and more car parking."

Plans will also see major investment in baggage handling facilities.

"This investment has recently earned us the title of the UK’s Best Airport for airports above 10 million passengers as well as the most family friendly airport in the UK and Ireland," said Mr Richards.

"Looking forward to 2019, we will continue to place customer service at the heart of everything we do.”
