Today (June 2) marks 10 years since a horror crash occurred on The Smiler rollercoaster at Alton Towers Resort.

It is a day many people across the UK will likely never forget - some may even remember exactly where they were when they saw the story flash up on the news.

A total of 16 people were hurt on the ride, including four with serious injuries, when the carriage they were in collided with another that had come to a halt on the track.

A 999 call was made at 2.09pm, with emergency services including fire crews, police and paramedics arriving at the Staffordshire theme park shortly after.

Those who were most seriously injured were airlifted to hospital for treatment.

A witness of the tragedy reported hearing passengers screaming for help, some covered in blood.

'We've not moved on', says victims

For the victims, time has passed but the memory of what happened is unlikely to have faded.

South Yorkshire couple Leah Washington-Pugh and Joe Pugh, aged 17 and 18 respectively at the time of the tragedy, were on a date when the rollercoaster crashed.
