Nader Abou was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court on May 20 for four and a half years, bringing to an end an investigation into more than 20 offences which took place across Birmingham between July last year and February.

West Midlands Police said the offences included 15 burglaries, three thefts from shops and stalls, theft of a motor vehicle, and assaulting an emergency worker.

In some cases, the force said Abou broke into houses and flats in Moseley and Edgbaston, stealing items like clothes, TVs, laptops, and wallets, at times targeting the same people and locations.

He was also found to have stolen an Audi from an address in Sparkhill, clothes from a shop in central Birmingham, and more than £100 worth of chocolate from a shop in Shirley on February 6 this year.

The 26-year-old, of no fixed address, was arrested at the shop and assaulted an officer in the process, before being detained and later charged following a thorough investigation by the Birmingham Neighbourhood Crime Team.

Officers spent hours piecing together the various offences he was accused of, reviewing CCTV and other evidence, and speaking to the people affected by his crimes.

DC Rachel Wood, from Birmingham Police, led the investigation and said: “Abou was relentless, leaving a wave of loss, devastation and fear behind for all those he targeted.

“His actions can only be seen as motivated by his own selfish gain.

“He demonstrated little care and respect for the public or law, as evidenced by his targeting of the same victims and locations multiple times.

“All victims and their families expressed deep loss, felt in a variety of ways, but none so great and the loss of safety and securing in houses they had made their homes.

“Our team worked hard to investigate every offence, as we take all reports and the devastation they cause very seriously, doing our best to bring those responsible to justice.

“I hope this sentence serves as a warning that such matters in the West Midlands will not be tolerated.”
