Consumer website Which? found that the region's Norton Canes service area on the M6 Toll between Cannock and Lichfield notched up among the best customer satisfaction ratings at 59 per cent among visitors, placing it third behind Rugby and Tebay Westmorland on the M6 network.

Norton Canes was beaten by the overall UK winner M5 Gloucester Westmorland and the M6 Rugby Moto services which notched up a customer satisfaction rating of 85 per cent and 75 per cent respectively in the Connnect membership survey carried out in December last year. The delighted staff are no strangers to success and previously won high praise in a Transport Focus survey which named it the best in England seven years ago.

Motorists gave their impressions of the service areas including rest areas, shops, food and drink, range and quality, convenience and accessibility, ease of parking, signposting, disabled access, length of queues, picnic areas, dog-walking space, and playgrounds.

Despite only attracting a customer satisfaction rating of 43 per cent the M54 Telford Welcome Break is a popular rest point for those heading to and from North Wales and Shropshire . Former Prime Minister Theresa May has been among those to pull in there while passing through the area.
