The inquest on Monday concluded that Mr Brown took his own life after experiencing "extreme pressures" relating to escalating press reports and a barrage of social media posts relating to claims he did not have appropriate qualifications for the role at West Midlands Fire Service, his personal life and his time serving at London Fire Brigade.
However, his family told the hearing they could not see what the organisation did to help him when Mr Brown complained of suffering from "racing thoughts, of feeling exhausted and not sleeping properly". He was also due to meet with then brigade chairman and Wolverhampton councillor Greg Brackenbridge and brigade monitoring office Sitinder Sahota over his admission that he did not complete the MBA qualification listed on his CV and Linked In profile.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service told the Express & Star: “This important legal process was understandably a challenging time for the former Chief Fire Officer’s family and many people within our service, of which Wayne Brown was a long-serving member. We continue to extend our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.
