The record producer is linked to the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO) - which runs the £32m Very Light Rail Innovation Centre - through his role as president of the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF).
In his role, Mr Waterman and his colleagues support current, former and retired railway people - those that struggle to 'cope with modern life', as Pete put it.

On Saturday, the musician gave a passionate speech about the RBF as he opened BCIMO's Family Day charity event held at the centre on Zoological Way to celebrate 200 years of modern railway.
"Everybody has this myth that railway drivers are on £80,000 a year," Waterman started.
