M6 is moving again after delays caused by loose dog on carriageway near Spaghetti Junction

Traffic on the M6 has been reopened after a dog spotted in the road was caught by officers this morning.

Drivers travelling in both directions were stopped at about 7am due to reports of an animal on the loose northbound between junction five at Castle Bromwich and junction six at Gravelly Hill causing congestion across the network.

Highways England posted on X that all lanes were now open after traffic officers and police caught the four-legged trespasser.

The post sated: "All lanes are now open on the #M6 in both directions in the #WestMidlands between J5 (#CastleBromwich) and J6 (#A38M, #Birmingham).The dog that was loose on the carriageway has safely been collected/left scene.Delays of approx 20 minutes on the approach are now easing."

The agency earlier posted on X: "Traffic has been STOPPED on the #M6 in both directions in the #WestMidlands between J5 (#CastleBromwich) and J6 (#A38M, #Birmingham) due to a loose animal in the road. Traffic Officers and Police are on scene working to capture the animal to safety. Thanks for your patience."
