A crew from Staffordshire Fire attended along with eight fire engines, a hydraulic aerial platform and a response vehicle at the large three storey building in Rea Street at around 9am on Tuesday (May 20).

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service confirmed they were still at the scene and said at this stage there were no reports of anyone being injured.

A statement said: "The main seats of fire have now been extinguished at the ongoing incident on Rea Street in Digbeth.

"Firefighters are now tackling several remaining hotspots across the site. Approximately 90 per-cent of the building has been affected by fire.

"Residents and businesses in the area should continue to keep doors and windows closed and visitors avoid the area while we and partner agencies work at the scene."
