West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Simon Foster has announced that he will double the number of knife bins across the West Midlands to help tackle knife crime.

In the announcement, Mr Foster said that the 32 bins in the West Midlands will now be increased to 64, with the PCC saying that the increase will reaffirm a longstanding commitment to combatting knife crime.

The announcement comes as figures were released showing how many weapons were surrendered via the bins between the months of January and March 2025.

More than 1,705 weapons were surrendered by the public overall between the months, equating to 142 deposits a week, or over 20 per day.

Among the items placed in the one-way bins were flick knives, knuckle dusters, zombie knives, machetes and even firearms.
