A planning application has been submitted to Dudley Council for a change of use of the former George Gallagher, more recently known as The Plough Inn, in Church Street.

The historic building lies within the Brierley Hill Conservation Area and has already been improved having fallen into disrepair after closing as a pub in 2009.

A Design and Access statement submitted to Dudley Council's planning department on behalf of the agents K Tang described the alterations.

The statement said: "The existing building form contributes to the small group of buildings at the top of Church Street identified in the Conservation Area Character Appraisal as making a positive contribution to the character of the area. These buildings form an attractive group and define the historic line of Church Street.

"Since the roof was removed, the building was seriously damaged by the weather. In 2020, without the valid planning permission the building was renovated and created with four one-bed flats. This planning application is to satisfy the legal requirement of the work, completed in 2022.

"The building was formerly The Plough public house and associated rear yard and outbuildings. The existing public house building has been vacant since April 2010."
