'Suspicious' caravan seized by police in Stafford after driver runs away

A caravan described as 'suspicious' has been seized by police in Stafford after the driver of the van towing it ran away.

The van and caravan were stopped by members of the Staffordshire Police Road Crime Team on Thursday afternoon on the M6 near Stafford after the caravan was seen to have no number plate.

After being pulled over, the driver of the van was seen running away from the scene, leaving behind a van which, after a check by officers, was found to be cloned.

The van and caravan were seized by officers at the scene, with enquiries in hand to find the driver.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police Road Crime Team said: "Suspicious caravan with no number plate on stopped on M6 North near Stafford. 

"The driver didn't want to hang around and swiftly ran off leaving his cloned van for us.

"Vehicle seized and enquiries in hand."
