The victim was struck with sheathed knives during the attack on April 10, Staffordshire Police said.

He had been walking through a local brook area close to Johns Lane in Great Wryley, near Cannock, at 1pm when he was chased by three men onto Sunbeam Drive.

A white BMW was then seen "being driven erratically" in the area while the foot chase continued onto Chestnut Drive and Quinton Avenue, police added.

The victim was reportedly hit with sheathed knives before the suspected offenders made off in the vehicle.

During the assault, the man suffered bruising to his ribs and torso as well as superficial injuries to his arms.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "Officers have carried out inquiries locally and are releasing images pulled from CCTV footage of the area at the time of the chase.
