Emergency services had rushed to the scene of Elliston Avenue in Great Barr, at around 5.15pm on Tuesday to reports of a large garden fire on the road.

A 4x4 brigade response vehicle from Aston attended the scene, quickly finding one of the conifers alight in one of the property's gardens.

The fire spread to two neighbouring gardens of the address, with a shed and an outbuilding also suffering heat damage.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said at the time: "Shortly before 5.15pm on Tuesday 13 May, we responded to Elliston Avenue, Great Barr.

"A fire engine from Perry Barr and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle from Aston responded, arriving to find several conifers on fire in the garden of a property.

"The fire spread to two other gardens, with a shed and another outbuilding suffering heat damage. Firefighters extinguished the fire using three hose reels.

"We left the scene at around 9.40pm, returning later that evening to check for hotspots, but none were found."

Days after the fire, it has been confirmed by the service that the fire had been started accidentally.

A spokesman for the service said: " This fire has been classified as accidental."
