'Enquiries continue': Police probe into Bilston pond death is ongoing as officers appeal for more information

Investigations are continuing into the 'unexplained' death of a woman found in a pond near Bilston.

The body of the woman was found in open water near Proud's Lane on the morning of Friday, May 9 and despite the best efforts of firefighters and paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation was launched following the death of the woman, which West Midlands Police said was being treated as unexplained and has asked for anyone with any information to get in touch.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said at the time: "The body of a woman was found in a pool off Proud's Lane, Bilston, at around 9am.

"We attended along with the fire service and paramedics, but the woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Her death is currently being treated as unexplained as we continue enquiries to establish what has happened.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police via 101, or alternatively on the Live Chat service on their website, quoting reference number 802 of May 9."

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said at the time: "We were called to an incident at the junction of Moseley Road and Prouds Lane in Bilston at 9.03am and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, our Hazardous Area Response Team and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.

"On arrival, crews found a woman in a critical condition and immediately began administering advanced life support.

"Sadly, nothing could be done to save her, and she was confirmed deceased at the scene."
