Ranjinder Deol, 46, swindled five patients, who suffered from a variety of mental health problems, at a Wolverhampton care home, out of more than £2,000 over seven months in 2022 and 2023.

Deol would take those under her care out on day trips as their primary carer and after helping them withdraw their own cash would then withdraw money for herself.

All her victims lived in Park View Self Contained Apartments, Barnard Road, which is run by Voyage Care which "enable people with learning disabilities and complex care needs to live the life they choose". Park View is the flagship accommodation for Voyage, only opening shortly before Deol was employed.

When confronted by bosses at Voyage Care about the withdrawals, instead of owning up she blamed the thefts on other staff who cared for the same patients.

However, when all the withdrawals between July 2022 and January 2023 turned out to be on her shifts, Deol was sacked and charged with fraud by West Midlands Police

Her five victims, both men and women with ages ranging from 20s to 60s, all were living on benefits and have not received a penny back from Deol. A Proceeds of Crime Hearing will be held in the autumn in an attempt to claw back the cash for her victims.
