Sandwell and Birmingham Vaisakhi: Road closures in place for weekend event

Rolling road closures are set to be in place for this weekend's Sandwell and Birmingham Vaisakhi procession.

The Vaisakhi parade on Sunday, May 18, will see thousands of Sikhs take to the streets of Sandwell and Birmingham to celebrate the birth of Sikhism.

Vaisakhi is the celebration of the birth of the Bhalsa, which was founded in 1699 by the Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

The the event, which is usually celebrated on April 13 and 14 each year, thousands of Sikhs and non-Sikhs take to the streets to celebrate the Sikh faith and culture, but also community and togetherness.

For the event, Sandwell Council has announced a number of road closures, with many being in place throughout the day. 

See below for the road closure and the times they will close and reopen.

 Smethwick - 10.20 to 3.30pm.
