Cannock Police have urged shoppers to be extra vigilant when using card machines in Hednesford and Heath Hayes after officers noticed card skimming devices in a number of machines in the area.
The devices read victims' inserted cards and PIN numbers before retaining them for the thieves' collection and use.
The devices were noticed by officers in the two areas, with the force now warning shoppers and residents of the areas to be mindful.
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: " Shoppers in Hednesford and Heath Hayes are being urged to be mindful of their use of card machines as officers have discovered so-called card skimming devices set up by thieves in the area.
"The devices read victims' inserted cards and pin numbers before retaining them for the thieves' collection and use."
Anyone who sees anything suspicious in the area, including suspicious behaviour or devices, should contact Staffordshire Police on their 101 number, quoting log number 470 of 3 May.
