Fun day in memory of young Wolves fan raises £3k for Teenage Cancer Trust

A community fun day put on in memory of young Wolves fan Harry Matthews has raised more than £3,000 for young cancer patients.

The event also marking the 80th anniversary of VE day was organised by Ryan Perrins and Ben Colliver, who manage the Milestone pub in Essington Road in New Invention, Willenhall.

Held in the grounds the charity and memorial fun day featuring gift stalls, live bands, food and raffles has so far raised more than £3,000 in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. 

Among the guests were  the 17-year-old's family, Wolverhampton North East MP Sureena Brackenbridge and the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Anthony Harris.

Ryan, age 32, says: " It was wonderful day. Loads of people turned up. There were lots of stalls. great singers, raffles and prizes which were donated. We're still counting up, but we've so far raised over £,3000.

"We are grateful to all who donated in cash and kind and to Nigel Dutton from Willenhall Lock Stock for his support. 

The MP and the mayor came. We probably had at least 300 people turn up. It was all for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

"We sold tickets for the event to boost the tally. When we told people in the community we were organising this event, we were surprised by the number of them who said they had young relatives who had been affected by cancer."

Performers included  Tom From West Brom, Shell J Jones and the Peaky Blinders, Kerry Young, Jen Love, Deighton Grey,  Diamond Noir and The 2Ds duo who led a 'Hi Ho Harry Matthews' singing tribute.

When Wolves fan Harry passed away last October Wolves legend Steve Bull , who met him, paid a moving tribute. Wolves fans also took part in a special  memorial standing ovation on 11th minute of the Boxing Day match  against Manchester United at Molineux. The young football player's wore the number 11 shirt for Wolves Sporting Youth team.
