Councillor Kerrie Carmichael, Leader of Sandwell Council, said: “My Cabinet and I are completely focused on getting things right for our residents. That means delivering high-quality services that are easy to use and working for the people who need them.

“We are a caring council that gets things done. We want our borough to be a great place for children to grow up. We want to make Sandwell a cleaner, greener and safer place to live and for our residents to live longer in good health. And we want to create the good jobs and opportunities that will help everyone realise their potential.
“The Cabinet is totally committed to achieving these ambitions and making real changes that will benefit our residents and our borough for generations to come.”
Councillor Harnoor Bhullar and Councillor Syeda Khatun will share the newly created portfolio of Education, Business and Skills, joining up work to boost educational attainment levels and ensure young people are equipped with the right skills to become the workforce of the future.
Commenting on these arrangements, Councillor Carmichael added: “Councillors often have responsibilities outside the council, and it can be difficult to juggle work, family and council commitments.
“I’m really pleased we can introduce a job share to open up more opportunities within the Cabinet. In turn, by working together I’m sure Cllr Bhullar and Cllr Khatun will lead efforts to open up more opportunities for young people to make it in their future careers.”
Roles and portfolios of Cabinet Members will be formally announced at Sandwell’s Annual Council meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 6pm.
