M6 delays: Vehicle catches fire after collision between Junction 6 & 7 between Birmingham and Great Barr

A vehicle caught fire following a collision on the M6 between Junction 6 and 7 northbound between Birmingham and Great Barr this morning.

National Highways West Midlands reported the collision on social media at around 6.49am and posted a shocking picture of the blaze.

West Midlands Fire Service attended the incident. Fire fighters left the scene at around 7.10am.

In its latest update at 7.30am National Highways West Midlands said that recovery had been completed, warning drivers to expect delays of up to 20 minutes on approach - while urging motorists to check routes before heading out.

A clean up continues.

A spokesperson for National Highways West Midlands said: “Our team crews remain at the scene working to treat the carriageway and clear debris.”
