However, his identity still remains a mystery after West Midlands Police and the CPS petitioned the Black Country's top judge, Justice Michael Chambers KC, to keep the paedophile's identity secret.

Prosecutor Daniel Oscroft told the court West Midlands Police had assured him the need for anonymity was critical to the success "of a major investigation into the defendant which will lead to multiple charges within the next 12 months".

The Express & Star challenged the order, along with other media outlets, as the teaching assistant has already been named on social media and any new charges could take three years to get to sentencing.

However, due to the sheer scale of the investigation and the damage one man could have done across the Midlands, Justice Chambers KC believed the risk of prejudicing the second trial after naming him was too great. Detectives are interviewing former pupils, many with special needs, of the teaching assistant. So far there could be a potential 81 new victims, which would rival some of the biggest abuse scandals ever.
