Darlaston South Councillors Paul and Christine Bott laid a wreath at the gates of George Rose Park in Darlaston next to the memorial of the local people who died during German bombing raids in the war.

The two councillors attached the wreath to the memorial as part of national commemoration events marking 80 years since the end of the war in Europe in 1945, with Councillor Paul Bott saying it was important to never forget the civilian casualties.

Councillors Paul and Christine Bott lay a wreath at the plaque at George Rose Park in Darlaston, for VE Day. The plaque is in memory of civilians that died during the air raid over Darlaston during the Second World War.

He said: "As we today celebrate VE Day and the end of the Second World War, we should never forget the people, the civilians, that were killed in this terrible war.

"This plaque is for the people who were killed in the bombing in 1941 and we tend to forget the civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"Today, we have laid a wreath in their honour on what is VE Day."
