On an explosive day for English football, Hednesford Town secured promotion to the seventh tier following their spectacular 2-0 victory over Congleton Town at Keys Park on Saturday.

The Pitmen secured the win after strikes from Jake Jervis and Jack Bearne hit the net, with the team facing a decent opposition from Congleton all throughout the match.

A total of 4,701 supporters sat on the edge of their seats as the afternoon game kicked off, with the ground recording a record attendance, thrashing their previous record of 4,412 when Hednesford Town faced FC United of Manchester in 2013.

While for some the monumental day was nothing but tears and sadness, for many it was a day of celebration, with thousands of smiling faces and roaring cheers being seen and heard in the stands over the 90-minute play-off.
