Hednesford Town have said that a fan who was struck ill during their promotion game against Congleton Town at Keys Park was 'alive and responsive' when they were airlifted from the stadium.

The update comes as Saturday's game was brought to a standstill when a supporter experienced a medical episode, leading to an air ambulance call-out from the Midlands Air Ambulance.

The incident took place shortly after the full-time whistle, with reports that many rushed to the aid of the fan.

A spokesperson for Hednesford Town Football Club said: "The supporter was alive and responsive in the stadium and was then airlifted to the QE Hosptial Birmingham."

The update comes following reports that two other supporters rushed to the patient's aid, administering CPR while waiting for the emergency services.

A full stadium evacuation was also ordered following a pitch invasion by jubilant Hednesford supporters, delaying the lift of the trophy.

Emergency services have been approached for more information.
