The stunning backdrop of Our Lady of Lourdes RC church in Uxbridge Street provided the alternative venue for the annual celebration.

With a grotto and a church building, which itself dates back to 1928, it was a lovely setting to take the place of the nearby Museum of Cannock Chase which shut its doors last week.

Visitors could step back in time with food, music and dancing of the time - the Victory in Europe day took place on May 8, 1945.

Military style vehicles of the time were on display on Saturday, The Henderson Big Band provided musical entertainment along with Lichfield Lindy and Dig for Victory and of course there were refreshments including cream teas and homemade cakes and plenty of vintage stalls.

Perhaps the highlight though was an RAF Spitfire flypast in the afternoon, the aircraft having played a vital role in the Second World War defending the UK against Luftwaffe air attacks.
