West Midlands Police is further expanding a team which uses dash cam footage to help trace dangerous drivers.

The Operation Snap team will  be boosted by additional officers and resources after the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner announced a £165,000 investment into the third-party reporting service.

In nearly 85 per-cent of cases the police were able to take positive action.

Motorists found guilty of driving offences faced a range of consequences including instant bans, warning letters, fines, penalty points on their licences and court appearances.

It follows the growing success of the initiative which saw over 16,200 pieces of footage - captured on dashcam or other recording devices - sent into us by the public last year.

The expanded Operation Snap team will focus on: Increasing the efficiency of processing submitted footage; Enhancing the quality of investigations and further deterring dangerous driving through increased enforcement.

Chief Superintendent Andy Parsons, who heads up the  team, said: “The sheer volume of submissions demonstrates the public’s commitment to road safety.

"With increased resources, we can take even more decisive action against dangerous driving, ultimately helping to prevent serious collisions and save lives."
