Public invited to attend largest Vaisakhi celebration in country at Smethwick park

The public is being invited to join thousands of worshippers at the largest Vaisakhi celebration in the UK in the heart of Smethwick.

Vaisakhi in the Park will return to Victoria Park in Smethwick on Sunday, May 11, with thousands expected to attend from across the UK and beyond for a day of spiritual celebration, culture, and community.

In an historic first, the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji will be respectfully transported from Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick in a golden palki (palanquin), marking a significant moment for the event.

The Nagar Kirtan (spiritual procession) will begin at 10am, arriving at Victoria Park where the main event will run from 10.30am.

The celebration will feature kirtan jathas from around the world, including revered performers from Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple), Amritsar, alongside cultural performances, Gatka (Sikh martial arts), children’s activities, and langar, a free vegetarian community kitchen served throughout the day.

Visitors will be able to try their hand at rangoli design, learn basic Punjabi language, and play traditional Punjabi percussion instruments in an inclusive, hands-on environment.
