After failing to grab the child, the man fled towards a McDonald's restaurant on the same road.

Thankfully the four-year-old was not injured, with both the child and their family being supported by specialist officers while police continue their investigation.

CCTV is being reviewed in the area, and police are also speaking to people in the area as part of the investigation.

Inspector Matt Shaw, from Birmingham Police, said: "We understand how distressing the incident will be to the community but rest assured we are taking this incredibly seriously.

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity at the time to speak to us if you haven’t already.

"We'd ask everyone in the area to support us by coming forward with any information they may have and to check door-bell cameras or dashcams in their cars, for any footage which may assist our enquiries.

“We have stepped up our patrols in the area. If you see officers out and about and have any concerns please speak to us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police via their 101 number, or alternatively via the Live Chat service on their website, quoting log number 20/225234/25.
