David Galil, 37, of Sutton Coldfield, was found guilty by a jury on Friday, April 25, at Birmingham Crown Court of permitting production/attempted production on the premises of a controlled class B drug - cannabis.

The address, which is on Lichfield Street, was initially searched by officers in May 2021.

A total of 50 cannabis plants were discovered to be growing inside two rooms on the upper floor, with Galil being inside the address at the time the searches were carried out, alongside another man.

Both men were charged with the offences and taken to court. The first man pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing in January to producing a controlled drug of Class B – cannabis.

Both are due to be sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on July 3.

PC Neil Parsons, from the Tamworth local policing team, said: "We’re determined to continue acting against the organised groups responsible for cannabis cultivation across Staffordshire.

“This particular crime often involves the exploitation of vulnerable people in our communities. They can be coerced into a life of crime by the gangs responsible for drug cultivation.

“We’re working proactively to disrupt these criminal networks and to put a stop to those responsible for high-harm offences in Staffordshire.
