Kidderminster man to appear in court accused of stealing from elderly people during burglaries

A man is set to appear in court after being arrested on suspicion of stealing from elderly people during burglaries.

Darren Hemmings was set to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today (May 1) after being charged with two counts of burglary and one count of fraud by false representation.

The 55-year-old from Kidderminster was arrested after an investigation was launched into two incidents in Halesowen and Pedmore on April 8 and April 10, where a 77-year-old man and a 100-year-old woman were distracted into handing over money after a man entered their homes.

Hemmings was subsequently arrested on Wednesday morning in Kidderminster. No details are yet available of his appearance in court.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A man is appearing in court this morning (Thurs), accused of stealing from elderly people during burglaries in Halesowen and Pedmore.

"Investigations were launched after incidents were reported on April 8 and April 10, where a man entered the homes of an 77-year-old man and a 100-year-old woman and distracted them into handing over money.

"Investigations were launched which led to the arrest of a 55-year-old man in Kidderminster on Wednesday morning (April 30).

"Darren Hemmings, from Kidderminster, was subsequently charged with two counts of burglary and one count of fraud by false representation.

"The 55-year-old is appearing before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court this morning.
