Teenager arrested over serious assault on man on Wolverhampton canal path

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of assault and robbery after a man was attacked on a canal path in Wolverhampton.

West Midlands Police said a 16-year-old boy was arrested following enquiries into the incident, which happened on Saturday afternoon (April 26) on the Birmingham Canal path near Cross Street North in Wolverhampton.

A man in his 40s was found with arm injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Following enquiries, we've arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of assault and robbery.

"He has been bailed with conditions while the investigation continues."

The West Midlands Ambulance Service issued a statement about the incident, saying that an ambulance crew attended the scene and treated the man, before taking him to hospital.

A spokeswoman for the service said: "We were called by the police to reports of an assault on Cross Street North, Heath Town, Wolverhampton at 2.55pm on Saturday, April 26.

"One ambulance attended the scene and treated one man who had sustained potentially serious injuries. 

"He was taken to hospital for further trauma care."
