Delays expected and lines blocked as train breaks down between Walsall and Hamstead

Delays to regular rail travel are expected due to a broken down freight train between Walsall and Hamstead.

West Midlands Railway have warned of delays and possible cancellations between Walsall and Hamstead due to a broken down freight train on the line. 

The incident was first reported at around 2.17pm, with delays expected until around 5.30pm.

Ticket rail acceptance has been put into place for services travelling between Birmingham and Walsall, with rail replacement bus services being requested between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley 'until further notice'.

West Midlands Railway said on their website: "We've been told that because of a broken down freight train between Walsall and Hamstead, all lines are blocked.

"We expect the problem will be fixed by 17:00, with the train services back to normal at 17:30. We do have ticket acceptrance with National Express West Midlands between Birmingham and Walsall. 

"Rail replacement buses have been requested to operate between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley until further notice."

The group added that journeys that are delays by 15 minutes are entitled to compensation under the group's 'delay repay' scheme. 

West Midlands Railway said: "If your journey is delayed by 15 minutes or more, you're entitled to compensation under our Delay Repay scheme. 

"Please keep a hold of your ticket and submit your claim within 28 days."
