Black Country tram station gets makeover under multimillion pound scheme
Work to smarten up a Wednesbury tram stop as part of a major £4.5million town centre improvement scheme is complete.

The Wednesbury Great Western Street Metro stop have been given a new-look entrance with new benches, signs as well as recently planted trees and shrubs to make the site more welcoming to passengers. It also includes new paving, upgraded lighting and a new litter bin.
The effort is part of the town's Levelling Up Programme and Sandwell's Public Realm project which are being funded by the Government.

Sandwell Council’s regeneration chief Councillor Peter Hughes said: "This is an exciting upgrade for Wednesbury that transforms the Great Western Street Metro area into a more inviting public space and gateway to the town. These improvements are part of our commitment to making Sandwell cleaner, greener and safer for everyone."
The council said the improved lighting is designed illuminate the space and also to help passengers feel safer when waiting for the Metro services, particularly during the evening hours.
In addition tram operator West Midlands Metro Network is currently extending the track between Wednesbury and Dudley borough as part of a project expected to cost in the region of £650m.
While in Wednesbury other improvements will see the public square revamped, new lighting and pedestrian links.
Maria Jardine, of Wednesbury Levelling Up Partnership Board, said: “The board wants more people to use Wednesbury town centre. The Metro area improvements are a key element of the investment into public spaces being supported by the Wednesbury Levelling Up Partnership. This has already included new and upgraded CCTV cameras and a radio link scheme to support businesses."
