West Midlands Ambulance Service issues statement on Wolverhampton canal attack

An investigation into an attack on a man who was taken to hospital after being assaulted on a canal path near Wolverhampton city centre is continuing.

The incident on Saturday saw officers from West Midlands Police called to the canal path of the Birmingham Canal near Cross Street North in Wolverhampton just after 3pm on Saturday (April 26) following reports of an assault.

A man in his 40s was found with arm injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

West Midlands Ambulance Service issued a statement about the incident, saying that an ambulance crew attended the scene and treated the man, before taking him to hospital.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called by the police to reports of an assault on Cross Street North, Heath Town, Wolverhampton at 2.55pm on Saturday, April 26.

"One ambulance attended the scene and treated one man who had sustained potentially serious injuries. 

"He was taken to hospital for further trauma care."

West Midlands Police has appealed for anyone with information that could help the investigation to get in contact.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with more information can contact us via 101 or Live Chat quoting 2539 of April 26."
