And three Saddlers stars from the past dropped in on Saturday (April 26) to show their appreciation and present a cheque for £3,700 to representatives of Palfrey Junior School from the Independent Saddlers Supporters Association (ISSA).

Founded in 2018, the association represents fans of the club and gets involved in community initiatives.

The money will be used to take children on a day out to Drayton Manor Park and Zoo. Kenny Mower, Mark Rees and former captain Brian Caswell popped into the group's headquarters at the London Midland Railway Club in Wednesbury Road, a goal kick away from where they used to play.

It was raised in under two weeks after the group put out a plea to help the families of children who might not otherwise be able to afford a day out easily.

Dave Beckett of the ISSA said: "This was an amazing effort by everyone given the timescale of it and shows the group is not just about football but the community the club serves, and this money will go towards giving these youngsters a well-deserved day out.

"Some of the kids might not remember Kenny, Mark and Brian but they are certainly legends in the club's history and it was wonderful they could give up their time to help present the cheque. I would like to thank all concerned on behalf of ISSA."
