We asked people in Birmingham when they usually turn their heating off, and whether it causes arguments between members of the household.

One family said: “I like to put the heating on timer so it's warm when I get up for work in the morning and it's warm when I come home from work but my husband has now said it's summer and no heating should be on until at least October. Dressing gowns and cosy socks for us, so there is arguments absolutely.”

A woman said: “No we tend to agree on the heating and we definitely turn it off now with the

way things are. We have if off unless we’re really cold.”

Another woman said: “My heating's on from morning until bed because of freezings conditions. My family they turn their heating off in their room.”

Another member of the public said: “What I do in my house is I've already programmed it to a certain temperature so it's on all year round. I think it's on at 22 all year round.”
