Staffordshire Police said the victim, aged 15, was walking in Westbridge Park, Stafford Street, in Stone, at about 4.30pm on March 6 when she was approached by a group of around 20 young people.

The force said she was punched, kicked and slapped and that following the incident, four people were referred to youth offending services.

Since then neighbourhood officers have been supporting the victim and have launched an investigation against those believed to be responsible for the assault.

As a result a 16-year-old girl, from Stone, was arrested on suspicion of assault and false imprisonment. She has since been bailed with conditions.

Other boys and girls, aged between 11 and 15, were voluntarily interviewed.

After reviewing all of the evidence and speaking with the victim and her family, the officers referred the teenager who was arrested to the youth offending services, along with three other young people, meaning she has not been charged.

Measures were also put in place to further protect the victim from harm.

The force said it was determined to protect local communities from harm and that acts of violence will never be tolerated and those responsible will be dealt with.
