The arrest took place on Monday (April 21) at around 5.45pm, after a Lexmoto moped had been left parked on Earl Street, Stafford, but had been taken when the owner came back for it.

Officers who were near Victoria Park were told about the theft and started investigating.

During the investigation, a group of people were stopped by patrolling officers, who also discovered the moped nearby.

A 22-year-old man from Birmingham and a 17-year-old boy from Walsall were both arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft.

A 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl, both from Stafford, were also arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, and have since been bailed with conditions while the police investigation continues.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "Officers who were near Victoria Park were told about the theft and started investigating. A group of people were then stopped. We also found the moped abandoned nearby.

"We’re determined to act robustly against those responsible for vehicle theft across Staffordshire."
