Dudley High Street was renowned for its amazing shops ranging from independently owned grocers to renowned clothing retailers - you could get it all in Dudley.

However, if you visit now, you might not realise how popular the area once was.

The most recent information shows that around 16 per cent of the units in Dudley town centre remain vacant as of April 2025.

Dudley Council blames online shopping and a sharp decline in the economic climate as the reason for the town centre's decline, saying that the impact of marketing trends is 'having a high impact' on high streets across the country.

Talking about the town centre, councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said: "The growing popularity of online shopping, and the current economic climate, is having an impact on high streets across the country. 

"However, we strongly believe the future is bright for the town with lots of exciting regeneration underway in the town as well as investors and developers keen to come and do business here."
