Technical fault closes Stourbridge Junction to Town line for Easter Bank Holiday Monday

A technical fault has put Stourbridge Junction to Stourbridge Town, the shortest rail line in Europe, out of action today (Monday).

West Midlands Railway announced the fault this afternoon but told passengers a rail replacement bus service will give alternative travel to the Stourbridge Shuttle.

WMR posted on social media at 12.41pm: "Unit fault on the Stourbridge Town Car Due to this, services from Stourbridge Junction to Stourbridge Town cannot run Rail replacement will be ordered.

"Updates to follow."

Opened in 1879, the Stourbridge branch line has been carrying passengers to and from Stourbridge Town/Junction for over 141 years. The Stourbridge Shuttle is built by Cradley Heath company Parry People Movers.

The line has been lauded as the UK's cutest rail line. Stourbridge already has its place in railway history as the Stourbridge Lion locomotive built locally was the first train to run in America.
