A man remains in critical condition in hospital after being attacked in Birmingham on Saturday.

The alleged attacker is due in court today after a man suffered serious head injuries in Sparkbrook. 

Two policemen were also attacked during the incident.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a fight on Stratford Road around 10pm on Saturday. A man in his 20s suffered serious head injuries, and remains in hospital in a critical condition.

"Michael Pinder was arrested and has now been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. 

"The 31-year-old, from Birmingham, has also been charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage, and possession of a Class B drug."

Pinder was remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court today (Monday).

The police spokesman added: "Our investigation is continuing and we are appealing for anyone who saw what happened to come forward.

"Several people who were nearby at the time stopped to help the man who was hurt, and some of them may not yet have spoken to us."
