Man arrested after knife wielding masked gang rob bikes from children in Dudley park

A man has been arrested after a group of men in balaclavas with knives robbed youngsters of their bikes in a Dudley park.

The robbery occurred yesterday (Sunday) at Baggeridge Country Park, Dudley, but is under the jurisdiction of Staffordshire Police, as it is owned by South Staffordshire Council.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We have arrested a man after a number of pedal bikes and e-bikes were stolen from a park in south Staffordshire.

"Our detectives have been investigating ever since it happened between 4.30pm and 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday) at Baggeridge Country Park on Gospel End Road, Dudley."

The robbers were believed to have been brandishing knives but the police have failed to recover any weapons during the arrest. 

The police spokesman added: "A group of men wearing balaclavas took three bikes from a group of young people. We understand they entered the park from St Michael’s Road and may have been in possession of knives, although no weapons have currently been found.  

"The victims were unharmed. We have found one of the bikes but two are currently outstanding."

Detectives are currently quizzing a man from West Bromwich about the robbery.

The police spokesman added: "An 18-year-old man, from West Bromwich, has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. He is being questioned in custody this afternoon (Monday). Anyone with any information that can help with our investigation are asked to get in touch."
