Sunday buses to be diverted due to Sandwell 'Lions of the Great War' event

A number of buses will be diverted due to the Lions of the Great War event this weekend.

National Express West Midlands has warned of a number of diversions from regular routes due to the Lions of the Great War event taking place in Smethwick, on Sunday (April 20).

The National Express West Midlands Services, 89, 87, and 80, will all face diversions due to the annual event that takes place at the Lions of the Great War statue on High Street Smethwick

The Service 89 to Midland Metropolitan Hospital will now follow High Street, Coopers Lane, Little Moor Hill, and Stoney Lane to the normal line of route. Towards West Bromwich is the reverse of this route. 

The Service 87 towards Birmingham will now follow Oldbury Road, Tollhouse Way, and High Street to the normal line of route. Towards Dudley will be the reverse.

The service 80 to Birmingham will follow Oldbury Road, Tollhouse Way, and High Street to the normal line of route. Towards West Bromwich will be the reverse of this route. 

A National Express West Midlands spokesperson said: "High Street closed to facilitate the Lions of The Great War event. 

"89 to Midland Metropolitan Hospital: High St, Coopers Lane, Little Moor Hill, Stony Lane to the normal line of route 89 to West Bromwich: Reverse of above."

The diversions are expected to be in place until 8pm on Sunday.
